Response from questionnaires
Statement of null and alternative
hypothesis. Null Hypothesis (Ho). The NDIC deposit guarantee has no direct
effect in the performance of banking industry.
Alternative Hypothesis (Ha): The NDIC
deposit guarantee has direct effect in the performance of banking industry.
4.4 TESTING THE HYPOTHESIS
The
following formula would be used.

Npoqo
Where
Z
= Z Score
X
= The Sample proportion of success
qo
= The known population proportion of failure (i.e I – p)
N = The sample size (i.e. the number of
questionnaires duly completed and returned) using 5% level of significance
which is equal to + 1.96
X
= n
N
= 11
qo
= 0.36
Z
= 7 – (11 x 0.64)
11
(0.64) (0.36)

11 x 0.2304

2.5344

1.5920
Z
= -0.025
DECISION RULE
Since the calculated Z (i.e. -0.025) is
lesser than the critical value of Z (i.e. + 1.96) and the fact that falls
within the acceptable region indicates researchers therefore accept the
alternative hypothesis (Ha) and reject the null hypothesis (Ho) conclusion.
The researchers concluded that the NDIC
deposit guarantee has direct effect in the performance of banking industry.
Which was seen in the table out of 11
questionnaire duly answered and returned 7 represented were of the opinion that
the deposit guarantee has no direct effect in the performance of banking
industry. While 4 representing 36.36% which show that the NDIC deposit
guarantee has no direct effect in the performance of banking industry.
Hypothesis 2
There is need for the Nigerian Deposit
Insurance Corporation to carryout its supervisory and distress resolution
functions that enhance public confidence through deposit mobilization in the
banking industry.

4.5 TESTING THE HYPOTHESIS
Hypothesis
2
Using
the formula

Npoqo
The variable defined as critical values
is same 5% level of significance which is equal to + 1.96
X
= 0.55
N

qo

Z = -341
0.60
Z
= -5.7
DECISION RULE
Since the calculated Z (i.e. 5.7) is
lesser than the critical value of Z (i.e. + 1.96) and the fact that falls
within the acceptable region indicates researchers therefore accept the
alternative hypothesis (Ha) and reject the null hypothesis (Ho conclusion.
The researchers concluded that NDIC’s
supervisory and distress resolution functions that enhance public confidence
through deposit mobilization in banking industry which was seen in the above
table of 11 questionnaire duly answered and 6 represented were of the opinion
that the NDIC’s supervisory and distress resolution functions that enhance
public confidence through deposit mobilization in the banking industry has no
direct effect in the performance of banking industry while 4 representing
36.36% and 1 representing 0.09% which show that the NDIC’s supervisory and
distress resolution has no direct effect in the performance of banking
industry.
