THE EFFICACY OF TRADITIONAL DYES: OSOGBO DYE AS A CASE STUDY

CHAPTER FOUR
                          STUDIO PRODUCTION
PRACTICAL  PROCESS
This consists of the practical processes used by the researcher in carrying out this project report. Below are materials used for the dyeing process.

STEP ONE:
Get fabric (cloth) ready and wash to reduce the starch from the fabric. Spread the fabric to get dry.

STEP TWO
This is the process where the fabric is washed and dipped into different colours of dye stuff to create a colourful pattern on the fabric.

STEP THREE:
Get your stove and pot ready with wax. Allow the wax to get hot but not too hot and not too cold. The stove needs just two threads as to regulate the hotness of the candle wax.

STEP FOUR:
Spread the fabric on the Table then use your foam with the hot candle wax to draw design on the fabric (cloth). This is also known as waxing.

STEP FIVE:
After waxing is completed, the next step is the dyeing process which has to do with the dye substance (indigo). Put some amount of dye in a bowl, add 25% caustic soda, 75% hydrosulphite, and then use warm water to mix the chemicals together and them add some cold water to it. Put your fabric (cloth) into the dye solution and leave it for sometime. Then remove and allow oxidation to take place.

STEP SIX:
The fabric is taken to the de-waxing pit. At this point you need a big pot. Set the fire and put some water in the pot. Allow the water to boil very well before dipping the already waxed and dyed fabric into the hot water then stir with a long stick to enable the wax melt off the fabric. After which wash and spread to get dry, them iron it.
